What is World Teachers’ Day?
World Teachers’ Day is an annual celebration on 5 October to recognise the vital role of teachers and their efforts to inspire a generation of learners.
This year’s theme is “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”.
“On World Teachers’ Day, we are not only celebrating every teacher. We are calling on countries to invest in them and prioritize them in global education recovery efforts so that every learner has access to a qualified and supported teacher. Let’s stand with our teachers!”
Joint message from Ms Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Guy Ryder, Director-General of the International Labour Organization, Ms Henrietta H. Fore, Executive Director of UNICEF, and Mr David Edwards, General Secretary of Education International,on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day 2021.
What is the History of World Teachers’ Day?
This international day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

Celebrating our Community
We asked our educators, what do you find the most rewarding part of being a teacher?
Afreen Bushra, at Shining Star International School, Abu Dhabi
“As a teacher, you give space to as many students as possible in your heart and shape their future making them realize that one day, they will remember you for who you are/were and how you inspired them to be what they are in their present!”
Bombo Trinity Primary School, Uganda
“You get to inspire others”
“Whether you do it intentionally or not, you inspire others just for being you. You inspire kids to do their best when you do your best. You inspire your colleagues to work hard when you work hard. You inspire everybody around you to be happy, positive.”

Teachers Empower our Students
Tatiana Popa is a Global School Alliance Ambassador who regularly attends online conferences and is a leading voice in the community.
Tatiana recently delivered a presentation at our conference to share her ideas on student voice and how teachers can their empower students.
“I found a wonderful thought – empower children’s lives and they will be able to change your world”
Tatiana spoke about a successful international school project that she is running at her school and was so pleased to see her students presenting the North Carolina project to the ambassador two years ago.
“We had five minutes to share what we are doing in our project – they decided to ask students about that project but other things that they did in the school, so and when my students started telling about the SDG’s and all the wonderful things we do – I think he didn’t want to go after five minutes, it was impressive!”
